PoE cameras take power and data over one Ethernet cable. Running that cable for pay is licensed low-voltage work.
Before you hire
- Cameras with pan/tilt/zoom, or tied to an alarm or door system, count as security systems and need an 06, 02 or 01 license, not just a telecom (09) license.
- Ask where video is recorded (a local recorder or the cloud), and who holds the admin password.
- Washington requires everyone’s consent to record private conversations (RCW 9.73.030). Consider turning off audio on outdoor cameras.
